 Direct Thermal printers do not use a ribbon for printing. They require a special media that will produce the printing using the heat from the printhead in the printer. Thermal Transfer printers can print direct thermal media and can also print on thermal transfer media using a ribbon. There is a large number of printer models to select from based on the application needs which includes the volume and the size of the materials to be printed as well as physical space required for the printer. The direct thermal ONLY printers are available in the Desktop, Mid-Range, and Mobile printers.
